Bulgarian education experts criticize single textbook proposal

Experts and educators are questioning a proposal by the Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science to implement a single textbook per subject for all students. Diyan Stamatov, a former Deputy Minister of Education, noted that in a digital age, a single textbook may not address systemic educational issues and requires clearer implementation details from the Ministry.

Yulian Petrov, chairman of the Education Union, reported that over 50% of teachers believe a single textbook would add little value, while 25% believe the future of Bulgarian education lies in moving away from textbooks entirely.

In addition to the textbook proposal, the Ministry is considering introducing school ombudsmen and new measures regarding student discipline, including a formal scale of punishments.
