Bulgarian Eurovision winner Dara admits she considered quitting over mental‑health pressure

Bulgarian singer Dara, 27, told the BBC that she contemplated withdrawing from the Eurovision Song Contest twice after being named Bulgaria’s representative. Diagnosed with ADHD, she experienced panic attacks and intense emotional pressure, fearing a deterioration of her mental health.

She said the support of a therapist, breathing exercises, diary‑keeping and meditation helped her stay balanced. Despite the doubts, Dara performed the song “Bangaranga” in Vienna, won the 2024 contest with a record lead, and secured Sofia as the host city for the next edition. Her victory was described as one of the most memorable in Eurovision history.

Dara emphasized that her personal well‑being now outweighs career ambition, expressing hopes for a healthy future beyond the stage.
