Bulgarian farmer donates refurbished wheelchairs to those in need

Dimitar Ivanov, a 32-year-old farmer from the village of Byala Reka, is refurbishing used wheelchairs and donating them to people in need. After spending years working in the United States, Ivanov returned to his home village to manage a family livestock business involving 150 cows.

His charitable initiative, through the ‘Together for Good’ Foundation, began seven years ago after he and a friend discovered unused wheelchairs while clearing out an old house. Since then, he has repaired and distributed nearly 700 mobility aids. These donations reach individuals across Bulgaria, as well as in neighboring Serbia and North Macedonia.

For recipients, such as Ivanka, a woman living with multiple sclerosis, these refurbished wheelchairs provide essential mobility that would otherwise be unaffordable, as new models can cost approximately 2,000 euros. Ivanov’s workshop receives donations from across the country and from abroad, including Austria and Switzerland.
