Bulgarian First League begins 2026/27 season

The 2026/27 Bulgarian First League season has commenced, marking the 103rd edition of the country's top football tier. The league has transitioned to a 14-team format, resulting in a reduced number of matches per campaign. The competition structure remains unchanged, consisting of a regular season followed by playoffs where participants are divided into three groups.

Television rights for the season are held by Nova Broadcasting Group, with matches broadcast live on Diema Sport. The season opened on July 17, 2026, with Spartak Varna facing CSKA 1948. On the same day, defending champions Levski Sofia began their title defense with a 2:1 victory over newcomer Dunav Ruse.
