Bulgarian Food Safety Agency conducts inspections and seizures

The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has conducted several enforcement actions regarding food safety and regulatory compliance across different regions.

In the Balchik municipality, inspectors from the Dobrich Regional Food Safety Directorate suspended the operations of three catering establishments in the Tuzlata area. The shutdown followed findings that the venues were using water from a captured spring not registered with the Black Sea Basin Directorate. The establishments failed to provide laboratory test results proving the water met safety requirements for drinking and food preparation, posing a potential health risk.

In a separate operation near Yundola, Pazardzhik inspectors, working alongside the Ministry of Interior and the National Revenue Agency, seized over 2 tons of food from an unregulated market. The products, which included both animal and non-animal origins, lacked proper labeling, origin documentation, and traceability. Additionally, some items were found to be stored improperly under direct sunlight. The seized food has been slated for destruction, and administrative violations have been filed against the traders.
