Bulgarian Food Safety Agency reports livestock disease and illegal food production
The Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA) has reported multiple incidents involving livestock disease and unregulated food production.
In the Stara Zagora region, outbreaks of sheep scab have been identified in the villages of Osetenovo and Petrovo. In Osetenovo, the disease was found in two farms housing over 500 small ruminants, leading to the establishment of a 5-kilometer protection zone and a 20-kilometer surveillance zone covering several municipalities. In Petrovo, an outbreak affecting 72 animals prompted similar containment measures, including restrictions on the movement of sheep and goats.
Separately, the BFSA shut down an unregistered food production and storage facility in the village of Dalgopol, Plovdiv region. Following an inspection, authorities discovered equipment for producing vegetable preserves, including machines for peeling peppers and a cold storage unit. Over one ton of food products—including lyutenitsa, blueberry jam, and vacuum-packed peaches—were destroyed because they lacked proper labeling, marking, or origin documentation.
