Bulgarian Government moves to lift oil export ban and draft fair food pricing rules

The Bulgarian government has proposed cancelling a temporary measure that restricts the export and intra‑EU delivery of oil products such as diesel, kerosene and industrial fuels. The proposal will be submitted to the National Assembly for a vote, potentially restoring the ability of Bulgarian producers to sell these products abroad.

Separately, the Ministry of Economy, Investments and Industry has released a draft methodology for determining a fair value of basic food items. The method combines local production costs with European price parity and is open for public consultation. It is intended to provide a transparent reference price for consumers without imposing price controls, and applies to retailers of food, non‑food, alcohol, tobacco and medicines as defined by the minister.

Both initiatives aim to increase market transparency and support the domestic economy amid broader concerns about labour market contraction and rising euro‑dollar exchange rates.
