Bulgarian Haskovo vegetable farmers block road to Maqaza border protest
Vegetable producers from the Haskovo region gathered near the village of Konush at 10:30 a.m., blocking traffic on the road to the Maqaza border crossing. The demonstrators demanded an end to what they describe as uncontrolled imports of vegetables from Turkey, North Macedonia and Albania, which they say are driving domestic prices down.
Farmers report that purchase prices have fallen to about €0.50 per kilogram, far below their production costs, while input costs for seeds, fertilizers and pesticides have risen. They called for a minimum price of roughly €1 per kilogram and warned that protests will continue if the situation does not improve.
