Bulgarian health commission hears NHIF leadership candidates

The Bulgarian Parliament's health commission is conducting hearings for candidates to lead the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This selection process follows the early termination of the mandates of former manager Petko Stefanovski and deputy manager Momchil Mavrov two months ago. Currently, the fund is being led by Dr. Asen Medzhidiev.

Two candidates have been nominated for the position of manager: surgeon Dr. Vladimir Daskalov, nominated by Progressive Bulgaria, and former manager Stanimir Mihaylov, proposed by We Continue the Change. Dr. Daskalov brings experience in managing state hospitals, while Mr. Mihaylov has a background in the banking and health insurance sectors.

Zdravko Shushkov, a mechanical engineer with insurance industry experience, is the sole candidate for the deputy manager position, nominated by Progressive Bulgaria. Following the presentations and vision statements, a vote will be held in the plenary hall on a separate day, requiring a majority of votes for election.
