Bulgarian Health Commission to hear NHIF leadership candidates

The Parliamentary Health Commission is scheduled to hold official hearings this Thursday for candidates seeking leadership positions at the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF). This process is critical for the management of the country’s multi-billion lev healthcare budget.

Two candidates have been proposed for the position of Director: Dr. Vladimir Daskalov, nominated by Progressive Bulgaria, a surgeon and former military doctor with management experience at UMBAL ‘St. Ivan Rilski’ and USBALO; and Stanimir Mihaylov, nominated by We Continue the Change, who previously served as the head of the NHIF and has a background in banking and finance.

For the role of Deputy Director, Zdravko Shushkov has been nominated by Progressive Bulgaria. Shushkov possesses expertise in insurance management and currently serves on the board of the State Consolidation Company. During the hearings, candidates will present development and stabilization concepts for the health insurance system and answer questions from deputies and professional organizations. A final vote by the plenary assembly is expected next week.
