Bulgarian history: Ohrid liberation and September Uprising

Historical records highlight significant events occurring on September 12 and 13 in Bulgarian and regional history.

In 1913, during the Ohrid-Debar Uprising organized by the VMRO, the city of Ohrid was liberated from Serbian administration. Insurgent groups led by Hristo Chernopeev and Pavel Hristov defeated Serbian forces, capturing a regiment and several artillery pieces. Following the liberation, a temporary Bulgarian administration was established by local citizens and revolutionaries.

In 1923, the September Uprising, organized by the Bulgarian Communist Party in alliance with the BZNS, broke out prematurely in Maglizh. While insurgents initially seized control of certain villages, they were forced into the mountains due to a lack of support from neighboring party organizations. The uprising later spread to Stara Zagora and Nova Zagora but was ultimately suppressed by government forces. Intense fighting was reported in the areas of Maglizh, Enina, and Shipka.
