Bulgarian history: Tsar Boris III burial and scientific milestones

Historical records from September 5 highlight several significant events in Bulgarian history. In 1881, the first meeting of the Bulgarian Literary Society, known today as the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, was held in Sofia.

In 1943, Tsar Boris III was buried at the Rila Monastery following a funeral attended by large crowds. After his death, his remains were kept at the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral for five days, where approximately 379,000 people paid their respects. Following the rise of the communist government after September 9, 1944, the Tsar's tomb was desecrated, and his remains were eventually moved to Vrana. The exact location of his bones remains unknown.
