Bulgarian households pay up to €40 a year for basic bank account services
Data from the Bulgarian National Bank show that the average monthly fee for a standard debit‑card account in Bulgaria is €1.26, which amounts to €15.12 per year. In addition, a typical user who makes four online transfers each month pays €0.50 per transfer, adding roughly €24 annually. Combined, these routine charges bring the basic cost of a personal bank account to about €39‑€40 per year.
These small, often overlooked fees – including cash withdrawals, in‑branch visits and statement requests – accumulate over time and can represent a noticeable portion of a household budget, even though each individual operation seems insignificant on its own.
