Bulgarian political parties adjust strategies for presidential elections

Bulgarian political parties are adjusting their strategies ahead of the upcoming presidential elections. GERB-SDS has decided not to nominate its own presidential or vice-presidential candidates. MP Yordanka Fandakova stated that the party sought a unified right-wing candidate to oppose Iliyana Yotova, but such discussions were rejected. She noted that the decision reflects the party's character and aims to avoid unnecessary risks.

Krum Zarkov, leader of the BSP, characterized GERB's decision as a tactical move designed to preserve the party's political standing in preparation for upcoming local elections rather than an endorsement of other candidates. He noted that Iliyana Yotova's candidacy relies on her own political capital rather than just momentum from previous elections.

Sociologist Dobromir Zhivkov suggested that while the campaign shows potential for a real battle, voter turnout is expected to be lower than 50%. He also observed that electoral support for Yotova may not automatically transfer from the Progressive Bulgaria formation, as much of that support was personal to former President Rumen Radev. Meanwhile, the 'Da, Bulgaria' movement has announced its support for candidates Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kendev.
