Bulgarian initiative committee backs Gyurov and Kandev for presidency

An initiative committee has been established to support Andrey Gyurov for president and Georgi Kandev for vice president in the upcoming elections on October 25. The committee is co-chaired by journalist and university lecturer Konstantin Valkov and opera singer Alexandrina Pendachanska.

The committee comprises over 200 members from various sectors, including science, culture, business, academia, and media. Notable supporters include former Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Rumyana Bachvarova, as well as former ministers from the Gyurov caretaker government, such as Sergey Ignatov, Nikolay Naydenov, Mikhail Okoliyski, and Georgi Klisurski.

During the founding assembly, Pendachanska emphasized that Gyurov is a leader who would not succumb to external pressure. Social anthropologist Haralan Alexandrov noted that the committee represents a significant grouping of intellectuals and professionals, aiming to provide a distinct alternative to traditional party-backed candidacies.
