Bulgarian Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev reshuffles regional police chiefs

On 3 August 2026 Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev issued orders that changed the leadership of three regional police directorates in Bulgaria. Senior Commissioner Svetoslav Grigorov, born in 1981 in Sofia, was temporarily appointed director of the Vidin directorate, while the former director Mirislav Milkov returned to his previous deputy‑director role.

In Stara Zagora, Senior Commissioner Dimitar Mashov was named temporary director, with Commissioner Asen Yordanov appointed as deputy director and head of the Criminal Police department. In Kyustendil, Senior Commissioner Vasil Yotsov took over as director, succeeding the previous chief.

Demerdzhiev stressed that “no one is above the state and no one is greater than the law,” urging police staff to work responsibly and regain public trust.
