Bulgarian investigative prosecutor receives signal against acting Prosecutor General
Investigative prosecutor Anton Urumov, who is tasked with investigating crimes committed by the Prosecutor General or their deputies, has received a formal signal alleging unlawful actions by the acting Prosecutor General.
The signal, which includes personal assessments and allegations of misconduct, was filed on August 14, 2026. On August 17, the matter was referred to the head of the Criminal College of the Supreme Cassation Court, Lada Paunova, to determine if the legal prerequisites for a formal investigation by the special prosecutor are met.
The Prosecutor's College of the Supreme Judicial Council has taken note of the information. It remains unclear whether the allegations target former acting Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov or the current acting official, Vanya Stefanova.
