Bulgarian Medical Union condemns reporting of unperformed vaccinations

The Bulgarian Medical Union (BMU) has issued a strong stance against the reporting of unperformed vaccinations, calling it a severe breach of professional responsibility and patient trust. This response follows reports from the Regional Health Inspection in Lovech, which alerted the State Agency for National Security (DANS) and the Regional Health Insurance Fund regarding three doctors suspected of documenting mandatory measles, mumps, and rubella vaccinations that were never actually administered.

BMU President Dr. Nikolay Branzalov stated that the union will not tolerate or hide doctors engaging in fictitious immunizations. However, he called for an immediate halt to speculation and demanded indisputable evidence before the reputation of the entire medical profession is tarnished. Branzalov noted that while a lack of antibodies can be a signal, it is not absolute legal proof of non-vaccination due to potential immune deficiencies in some patients.

Dr. Branzalov also highlighted the pressure general practitioners face from parents refusing vaccines and proposed the implementation of a 24-hour electronic portal to allow for immediate reporting to police and health inspectors when non-compliance occurs. The BMU emphasized that vaccinations are a critical component of national public health policy and that any proven misconduct must be met with legal accountability.
