Bulgarian ministers face parliamentary questions on EU sanctions and education

Bulgarian ministers are scheduled to face parliamentary control questions regarding foreign policy, education, healthcare, regional development, and energy.

A primary focus of the session involves the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Bulgaria’s stance on the European Union’s 21st sanctions package against Russia. Lawmakers are seeking clarification on why Bulgaria requested the removal of Russian billionaire Iskandar Mahmudov from the sanctions list. The request was reportedly motivated by concerns that sanctions against Mahmudov, whose interests lie in metallurgy and mining, could jeopardize the supply of critical spare parts for the Sofia metro.

In the education sector, Minister Georgi Valchev will address questions regarding the integration of first aid training into school curricula, specifically concerning teacher training and equipment availability. Healthcare Minister Katya Ivkova will respond to inquiries regarding electronic health records and sanitary controls at the Globen Monastery. Additionally, the Minister of Regional Development will address road safety and infrastructure concerns.
