Bulgarian Ministry of Education releases 2026/2027 assessment models

The Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science has released the models for national external assessments (NEA) for the 2026/2027 school year, covering grades 4, 7, and 10. The models include sample tasks to guide students and educators.

For 4th and 7th graders, the assessment formats remain unchanged. Seventh-grade students will continue to be tested only in mathematics and Bulgarian language and literature, without the integration of other subjects.

Significant changes are introduced for 10th-grade Bulgarian language and literature assessments. The test will now include tasks related to history and civilizations, as well as philosophy. The exam will consist of 22 tasks: 18 focusing on Bulgarian language and literature competencies, and 4 tasks oriented toward history and philosophy. To accommodate these additions, the testing duration has been increased from 90 to 120 minutes.

Additionally, the 10th-grade mathematics assessment will continue to integrate natural sciences. For the 2026/2027 period, this exam will feature 16 tasks, including 10 strictly mathematical questions, covering subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, astronomy, geography, and economics.
