Bulgarian MP defends independent foreign policy amid hybrid attack concerns

Dimitar Zdravkov, a Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Education Committee, has defended Bulgaria’s foreign policy stance following criticisms regarding the government's response to Germany's accusations against Russia. Germany recently accused Russia of conducting hybrid attacks, including an incident involving an explosive-laden drone at Leipzig airport and infrastructure sabotage.

Zdravkov emphasized that while Bulgaria stands in solidarity with its leading ally, Germany, the nation must maintain an independent foreign policy that prioritizes national sovereignty and economic interests. He noted that expressing critical views within NATO and the EU does not signify opposition to these alliances, but rather reflects concerns regarding specific decisions made within them.

In addition to foreign affairs, Zdravkov addressed domestic issues, linking a strong foreign policy to a well-educated citizenry. He called for restoring the educational function of schools and discussed the importance of stability in the 2027 budget and addressing irregularities in public enterprises.
