Bulgarian MP Stoian Trichkov slams opposition over budget debate

Stoian Trichkov, a member of the Progressive Bulgaria party, was reprimanded in the 52nd National Assembly after labeling opposition deputies as "liars and low manipulators" during a speech referencing the government’s first 100 days. He alleged the opposition spreads false information, criticised the handling of the 2026 budget and described the debate and its passage as the biggest gaffe of the administration’s early tenure. Trichkov also mentioned the pending child‑hospital project under judicial review and stated that the cabinet does not support further military aid to Ukraine, urging a diplomatic solution.

Other parliamentary factions reacted sharply. GERB’s Kostadin Angelov called for a calmer tone, while members of Democratic Bulgaria and the DPS‑New Beginning condemned Trichkov’s language and defended the opposition’s stance. The episode underscores heightened tensions between the governing coalition and opposition parties over fiscal policy and communication strategy.
