Bulgarian MPs attend Ali Khamenei funeral in Iran

Two members of Bulgaria’s “Vazrazhdane” party, MPs Angel Georgiev and Zlatan Zlatanov, took part in the mourning ceremonies for Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei in Tehran. Party leader Kostadin Kostadinov said they were the only European politicians present, having received an invitation through the Iranian embassy in Sofia. The delegation’s visit does not contradict Bulgaria’s official foreign‑policy stance; Kostadinov highlighted possible benefits from cheaper Iranian energy supplies. The Iranian embassy posted video of the MPs joining the procession, and their security was guaranteed. Both deputies returned to Bulgaria later that evening.
