Bulgarian municipalities propose taxi fare updates

Municipalities in Bulgaria are addressing changes to taxi service regulations and pricing. In Veliko Tarnovo, Municipal Council President Ventsislav Spirdonov has organized a meeting for October 27 to discuss proposed minimum and maximum taxi fares for 2027. The discussion aims to address citizen concerns regarding service quality, accessibility for people with disabilities, and the shortage of available taxis during evenings and holidays. Spirdonov emphasized that the dialogue should also include taxi operators to address their rising operational costs and working conditions.

In Dupnitsa, Mayor Purvan Dangov has proposed new taxi tariffs to be implemented on January 1, 2027. The proposal, scheduled for review by the Municipal Council on October 29, suggests a minimum daytime rate of 0.50 BGN per kilometer and a minimum nighttime rate of 0.65 BGN. Maximum rates are proposed at 0.75 BGN during the day and 0.85 BGN at night. The Mayor cited inflation and increased costs for fuel, maintenance, parts, and labor as the primary drivers for updating the current tariffs, which have remained unchanged since 2017.
