Bulgarian National Assembly majority rejects opposition agenda motions
The governing majority in the Bulgarian National Assembly, led by Progressive Bulgaria, has rejected several opposition proposals to include specific items on the parliamentary agenda.
Rejected motions included requests for a hearing with the Minister of Energy regarding the cessation of gas exploration in the Black Sea by the Bulgarian Energy Holding. Additionally, the assembly declined a proposal to hear the Ministers of Interior and Defense, along with the heads of the State Agency for National Security and the State Agency for National Intelligence, concerning reports of foreign military training, including Ukrainian personnel, on Bulgarian territory. Other rejected items involved amendments to the Road Traffic Act and an audit of the State Agency for State Reserve and Wartime Supplies.
In a separate political dispute, Democratic Bulgaria representative Nadezhda Yordanova criticized the majority for refusing to include a hearing regarding conflicting statements between Foreign Minister Kaja Kallas and President Yotova. The disagreement concerns whether Bulgaria joined a joint UN declaration supporting Ukraine and calling for the immediate withdrawal of Russian forces. Yordanova accused the majority of failing to respect parliamentary democracy by withholding clarification on the nation's official stance.
