Bulgarian National Audit Office releases public asset declarations

The Bulgarian National Audit Office has released the annual and introductory asset and interest declarations for public officials, covering filings made through August 2026. The publication includes over 16,000 declarations from members of the caretaker government and members of parliament elected following the April 2026 elections. Additionally, a list of 637 individuals who failed to submit their declarations within the legal timeframe has been released.

Specific filings highlight the assets of various political figures. Dimitar Stoyanov, a former MP for Progressive Bulgaria and current Minister of Defense, declared multiple properties in Plovdiv and Sofia, along with several vehicles and various bank accounts. Other officials from the Progressive Bulgaria party, including Tevik Parafitov, Radoslav Valchev, and Svetlana Mitosheva, also disclosed real estate, vehicles, and financial holdings such as investment funds and consumer loans.

Under Bulgarian law, officials must declare real estate, vehicles, debts exceeding 5,000 euros, securities, company shares, cryptocurrencies, and income. These declarations must also include the assets of spouses and minor children. Failure to comply with filing deadlines results in fines ranging from 500 to 3,000 euros, and the National Audit Office conducts subsequent verifications of the declared facts.
