Bulgarian Parliament debates legislative reforms and ministerial accountability

The Bulgarian Parliament is addressing several legislative and social issues. The agenda includes amendments to the Securities Offering Act and a ratification agreement with the International Bank for Economic Cooperation regarding a 15.1 million euro capital return.

Parliamentary control sessions will feature seven ministers. Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev will face questions regarding police actions involving the Ukrainian group “KUB” in Varna and bomb threats against public buildings. Regional Minister Ivan Shishkov will be questioned on road conditions and infrastructure projects. Additionally, the assembly is reviewing bills related to medical institutions, cybersecurity, and local self-government.

Separately, the Bulgarian Federation of Pensioners' Unions and Organizations has issued a formal demand for pension updates to follow the “Swiss rule,” requesting that increases occur on January 1 instead of July 1 to assist with winter costs. The federation also expressed strong opposition to proposed 30% increases in property tax assessments for 2027–2029, warning that such measures could financially devastate low-income retirees.
