Bulgarian Parliament resumes session with major legislative agenda

The 52nd National Assembly of Bulgaria has resumed its plenary sessions following the summer recess, marking the start of a significant political season. Key legislative priorities include the preparation of the 2027 budget, with the finance minister expected to develop a draft by October 2.

Major political milestones include the upcoming presidential elections, with the campaign officially set to begin on September 25. Additionally, the parliament must address the election of a new Supreme Judicial Council, which requires a qualified majority of 160 deputies.

On the defense and security front, the assembly is set to consider the ratification of agreements for the acquisition of minehunters from the Netherlands and Belgium as part of a broader military modernization effort. Other legislative items include amendments to the Law on Weapons, Ammunition, Explosive Substances, and Pyrotechnic Articles, aimed at reducing administrative burdens, as well as updates regarding Stryker combat vehicles and Javelin anti-tank missiles.
