Bulgarian PM protests EU resolution clause on Black Sea

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has sent an open letter to political groups in the European Parliament, addressed through President Roberta Metsola, to protest a last-minute addition to a resolution regarding the Black Sea.

The dispute centers on point 6 of the resolution, which was formally proposed by the Greens. This specific clause claims that diplomatic responses and reactions to Russia have been weak and that concrete actions are lacking. Radev expressed categorical disagreement, stating that this addition undermines the rest of the document, which otherwise supports Bulgaria’s efforts to investigate drone attacks on commercial vessels and rescue crews in the Black Sea.

Radev accused certain Bulgarian MEPs of using the European Parliament as a tool for a domestic pre-election campaign, noting that the individuals involved have limited political legitimacy at home. The seven Bulgarian MEPs identified as contributors to the resolution are Andrey Novakov, Andrey Kovachev, Eva Maydell, Emil Radev, Iliya Lazarov, Radan Kanev, and Ilhan Kyuchuk.
