Bulgaria police secure polling stations for presidential elections
Law enforcement agencies across multiple Bulgarian regions have deployed significant personnel to ensure security during the presidential and vice-presidential elections held on October 25, 2026. Reports from various regional directorates indicate that the voting process began in a calm atmosphere with no major incidents reported.
In Plovdiv, nearly 1,000 officers from the police, fire department, gendarmerie, and border police are managing public order and protecting voting materials. Similarly, large contingents are active in Sofia, Ruse, Shumen, Pernik, Stara Zagora, and Dobrich. These security measures include the physical protection of polling stations, mobile voting sections, and the transport of ballots and machine-voting devices.
To facilitate voting, specialized units are issuing temporary certificates to citizens who have lost, damaged, or have expired identification documents. Authorities have reminded voters of strict regulations, including the prohibition of weapons, dangerous items, and the use of mobile phones or cameras to record the voting process.
