Bulgarian police bust euro counterfeit workshop near Svoge

Police in Sofia carried out a raid on 3 June after a 20‑euro counterfeit note was used in a shop in the village of Cерово. Officers from the criminal and economic police searched a house in the nearby village of Rebrovo and discovered a printing press, a paper‑cutting plotter, a bank‑note‑counting machine, hologram stickers and other specialised supplies used for forging euros.

Four suspects were detained. Prosecutors later charged three of them with producing and distributing fake banknotes and concealing the equipment. Two were held for up to 72 hours, with authorities seeking permanent arrest; the third was released on a monetary guarantee due to serious health issues. A total of €24,520 in cash and an additional forged 20‑euro note were seized during a follow‑up search of a second address.

All three accused have multiple prior convictions.
