Bulgarian police close in on fugitive financier Petyo Euro

The Bulgarian Ministry of the Interior said it has operational data indicating the whereabouts of Petyo Euro (Petё Petrov), a broker previously convicted of document fraud. Chief Commissioner Lyubomir Nikolov told a briefing that “once a European arrest warrant is issued, we expect a swift detention and delivery to court.” The authorities have not disclosed his exact location to avoid jeopardising the operation.

Earlier this year a Sofia court fined Euro €2,556 for falsifying documents and cancelled his previous European arrest warrant. He is now subject to a nationwide search in a separate investigation for alleged extortion. Interior Minister Ivan Demerdzhiev previously replied cryptically, “I know,” when asked about Euro’s location, and former Justice Minister Andrei Yankulov mocked the situation on social media.

The prosecutor’s office has not provided further details, and the search remains ongoing.
