Bulgarian police intensify summer road safety operations

During the summer weekend, Bulgarian police have stepped up traffic controls on routes to the Black Sea. In the Sliven region, the Road Police carried out the "Safe Summer" operation, checking 150 vehicles—including 110 cars and 40 trucks—within 24 hours. Five vehicles were stopped for serious violations such as unsafe tires, driving without a licence and excessive noise, and dozens of fines were issued for technical defects, speeding and other infractions.

At the national level, the chief commissioner of the National Police announced that about 990 police teams will patrol major highways on Friday, 24 July, imposing a temporary ban on heavy‑truck (TIR) traffic between 16:00 and 23:00 on the Trakia, Struma and Kresna‑Pass corridors. The restriction will be lifted on Saturday, with similar limits applied on Sunday. The measures respond to a rise in incidents involving heavy trucks and aim to improve road safety for summer travelers.
