Bulgarian Police Warn of Fraudulent Road Police Messages

The Regional Directorate of the Ministry of Interior in Silistra reported a surge of fraudulent messages sent in the name of the "Road Police." Recipients receive email or SMS, often from foreign numbers with country codes +63 or +44, claiming unpaid traffic fines and threatening additional sanctions. The messages contain links to a counterfeit website that mimics the official electronic services portal of the Ministry of Interior, aiming to harvest personal and banking information or install malware.

Authorities stress that the Ministry of Interior never sends such communications from foreign mobile numbers. Citizens are urged to verify any fines only through the official portal, avoid clicking suspicious links, and never provide personal or financial data to unverified sources. Those who have already entered information should immediately change passwords, monitor bank accounts, inform their bank, and scan devices for malware.
