Bulgaria presidential race intensifies as Yotova emerges as frontrunner

Bulgaria's upcoming presidential elections are intensifying as key candidates and political parties shape their strategies. Illyana Yotova is currently identified by political analysts as a strong frontrunner, presenting an image of a 'president of the people' that contrasts with the established political order.

In contrast, the duo of Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev is seeking to represent a more horizontal and democratic model of power, aiming to connect with voters outside major urban centers. However, analysts suggest they may face challenges in securing additional support during a potential runoff.

The political landscape remains uncertain due to two major variables: the decision of the GERB party regarding whether to nominate its own candidate or support another, and the candidate selection from the Vazrazhdane party. GERB leader Boyko Borisov has indicated that the party is debating its position, noting that a failure to participate could alienate supporters.

Political experts anticipate a runoff election, as voter turnout is expected to remain below the required 50% threshold.
