Bulgarian political leaders debate Prime Minister Radev's stance on Black Sea security

Bulgarian political figures and analysts are debating the consistency of Prime Minister Rumen Radev's foreign policy following attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea. GERB Deputy Chairman Daniel Mitov criticized the government for a perceived disconnect between Radev's domestic rhetoric and the positions Bulgaria supports within the European Council, specifically regarding Russian responsibility for maritime attacks.

In contrast, GERB leader Boyko Borisov praised Radev for aligning with the European Council's final assessment, which condemns Russia for the offensives in the Black Sea. Borisov argued that the source of the drone and torpedo attacks is clearly identifiable and criticized the government's previous hesitation to name Russia as the aggressor.

Political analysts have raised concerns regarding the government's ability to protect citizens and economic interests amidst Black Sea tensions. Discussions have also touched upon the upcoming presidential elections, with commentators debating whether candidates like Iliyana Yotova or the duo Andrey Gyurov and Georgi Kandev represent a shift away from the current administration's perceived pro-Russian or neutralist tendencies.
