Bulgarian political leaders discuss presidential campaign priorities

Krum Zarkov, leader of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and co-chairman of Iliana Yotova’s initiative committee, has called for the upcoming presidential campaign to focus on national unity, economic issues, and social problems. Zarkov emphasized that because the president embodies national unity, candidates must demonstrate how they envision this cohesion. He also noted that the campaign should address risks arising from the international situation.

Zarkov criticized the current political climate, suggesting that some campaign topics are being imposed on candidates by party leaders who view processes solely through the lens of parliamentary power dynamics. He described the clash between political forces as an expression of “serious political impotence.”

Meanwhile, Konstantin Valkov, co-chairman of Andrey Gyurov’s initiative committee, expressed support for Gyurov and Kandeve, citing their “systemic, structural, and expert approach.” Valkov highlighted the importance of Bulgaria having a clear strategy to navigate changes in the global international environment, noting a lack of vision in recent years despite the concentration of power in specific political figures.
