Bulgarian and Romanian leaders address UN General Assembly

During the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, leaders from Bulgaria and Romania addressed critical issues regarding global security, regional stability, and institutional reform.

Bulgarian President Iliana Iotova called for the conflict in Ukraine to shift from the military to the diplomatic and political arena. She emphasized the need to transform the Black Sea from a high-risk zone into a secure corridor for transport, energy, and trade. Iotova also advocated for UN Security Council reform, supporting the expansion of membership to include more diverse regional representation, including an additional non-permanent seat for the Eastern European group.

Romanian President Nicușor Dan participated in UN meetings, including sessions on the situation in Crimea and discussions with the UN Secretary-General. His visit also focused on attracting American investment to Romania through dialogues with the Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

In separate meetings, President Iotova discussed Middle East conflicts with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and met with King Abdullah II of Jordan to explore cooperation in defense and artificial intelligence. She also proposed the establishment of a Museum of Tolerance in Bulgaria to preserve the history of Bulgarian Jews.
