Bulgarian Prime Minister warns of continued high-profile assassinations

Prime Minister Rumen Radev has warned that the assassinations of prominent figures are likely to continue in Bulgaria. He attributed this trend to the oligarchy and the criminal underworld losing control over public procurement and national financial flows.

Radev stated that as resources diminish, conflicts over the redistribution of these shrinking assets intensify. He suggested that the recent killing of Slavi Binev was likely motivated by significant financial interests, though he noted that the full truth would emerge only after the official investigation concludes.

Comparing the current situation to the country’s transition period, Radev claimed that law enforcement is now more effective, with crimes being solved within hours rather than remaining hidden by state actors.

Additionally, the Prime Minister addressed a recent incident involving an official from the National Service for Protection (NSO) who physically confronted a journalist. While Radev declined to call for the immediate resignation of NSO head General Emil Tonev, he stated that the Council of Ministers would base its decision on the results of the ongoing Ministry of Interior investigation.
