Bulgaria holds prosecutor elections and conducts election security operations
In Bulgaria, prosecutors have begun the process of electing members to the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) from the professional quota. During a general assembly in Sofia, 25 candidates presented their concepts for four available seats. The assembly, opened by acting Prosecutor General Vanya Stefanova, initially faced a delay due to a lack of quorum but proceeded with 502 participating prosecutors out of 1,570 eligible voters. The final vote is scheduled for Saturday, October 24.
Separately, a large-scale specialized police operation is underway in the Blagoevgrad region to ensure security during the upcoming elections. The operation involves the Ministry of Interior, the Gendarmerie, and other state institutions. While authorities reported that no arrests have been made specifically for vote-buying, the crackdown has resulted in the detention of 15 individuals for various other crimes, including drug offenses. Police have also conducted hundreds of checks on persons, vehicles, and premises to prevent violations of the Election Code and maintain public order in areas such as Sandanski and Gotse Delchev.
