Bulgarian road safety proposal suggests concrete barriers

Vladimir Todorov, chairman of the Bulgarian Association of Accident Victims, has proposed infrastructure upgrades to improve highway safety in Bulgaria. Instead of implementing strict bans on heavy goods vehicles using the left lane, he suggests replacing standard metal guardrails with concrete 'Jersey' barriers. These concrete structures offer higher durability and protection against heavy trucks penetrating into oncoming traffic.

Todorov also noted that current regulations regarding truck overtaking could create congestion and safety risks if not applied selectively to high-risk areas. Additionally, the proposal highlights the need for better rest areas for drivers and improved administrative oversight, including a specialized register for drivers with health restrictions.
