Bulgarian Socialist Party marks 135 years at Buzludzha summit

The Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP) held its traditional National Congress on the historic Buzludzha plateau, commemorating 135 years since the 1891 founding congress of the organized socialist movement in Bulgaria. Party leader Krum Zarkov delivered a speech emphasizing the need for a strong left‑wing force, while deputy chair Donka Mihaylova highlighted the party’s aim to restore public trust ahead of upcoming local and presidential elections. The gathering also featured a “Summer University” with workshops on topics such as left‑wing and syndicalist movements, leftist collectives, and the intersection of politics with artificial intelligence.

BSP officials used the event to outline strategic priorities, including supporting presidential candidate Iliana Yotova and preparing candidates for forthcoming municipal contests. The congress served both as a symbolic celebration of the party’s history and a platform for presenting its future political agenda.
