Bulgarian Special Forces prioritize modern weaponry and hybrid threat readiness
Brigadier General Boyar Boikov, commander of the Bulgarian Armed Forces' Joint Special Operations Command (JSOC), stated that the unit is working to acquire modern weaponry and equipment. Speaking at a ceremony in Sofia, Boikov emphasized the need to develop skills for operating remote systems and countering hybrid threats to adapt to a rapidly changing high-tech environment.
Boikov noted a significant challenge in the procurement process, observing that while technological innovations occur in weeks, the current acquisition cycle is measured in years. Regarding the potential deployment of Bulgarian troops abroad, he clarified that such actions depend on political decisions, noting that while the military will be ready to execute any assigned task, the decision rests with political leadership. He reaffirmed the unit's readiness for various operations, including search and rescue, stating, “we are ready to act at any time,” and emphasized Bulgaria's obligations as a NATO member.
