Bulgarian Sunday schools abroad welcome 40,000 students

Approximately 40,000 students are beginning the new academic year in Bulgarian Sunday schools located abroad. These institutions, totaling 410 schools across 44 countries on six continents, focus on teaching Bulgarian language, history, and geography.

The Bulgarian Ministry of Education and Science is providing over 10 million euros to support student education and teacher resources. Deputy Minister of Education Dr. Tanya Pancheva highlighted the importance of these schools during the 15th anniversary celebration of the ‘Vasil Levski’ Sunday school in Saarbrücken, Germany.

In Germany alone, there are 31 Bulgarian Sunday schools serving more than 3,700 students. Pancheva described these schools as vital centers where children can connect with their roots and maintain a sense of closeness to Bulgaria regardless of their location.
