Bulgarian tourism officials propose shift from all-inclusive model

Bulgarian tourism officials are proposing a shift away from the traditional all-inclusive model to focus on increasing revenue rather than merely increasing tourist numbers. Polina Karastoyanova, Director of the National Tourism Board, suggested that the industry should encourage visitors to explore Bulgaria’s cultural and historical landmarks, wine, and culinary offerings instead of remaining within hotel perimeters.

Karastoyanova emphasized the need for a new management model for tourism resources, highlighting the importance of service quality and staff training. She also noted that issues regarding flight availability for German tourists are expected to be resolved for the upcoming year.

Odyssey Spasov of the Bulgarian Association of Seaside Travel Agents called for stricter controls to combat the shadow economy, stating that over 1.5 billion euros circulate in the unregulated sector, including accommodation and event organization. He also noted that price speculation has impacted the market significantly.
