Bulgarian Wrestling Federation opposes new leadership candidacy

The Bulgarian Wrestling Federation (BFF) has issued a formal declaration opposing a new presidential candidacy supported by Grisha Ganchev and Valentin Yordanov. The federation characterized the candidacy as a reactive move following the BFF's decision to report evidence of sanctions evasion to the Sofia City Prosecutor's Office and the embassies of the US, UK, and EU member states.

The reports involve allegations of bypassing sanctions against Russia during the transfer of a Russian athlete. In response, the BFF announced it will conduct an immediate review of all naturalizations of athletes from the “Russian world” performed under previous leaderships.

The federation emphasized its commitment to developing Bulgarian champions through local investment rather than relying on foreign athletes. The management board stated that the sport cannot be unified under an old management model that prioritizes the recruitment of foreign competitors over the systematic growth of domestic talent.
