Bulgarian Wrestling Federation presidential candidates call for unity
Todor Angelov, a candidate for the presidency of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation, has called for an end to the chaos and internal conflict currently affecting the sport. During a press conference, Angelov emphasized the need for unity to ensure the federation can move forward effectively.
Angelov expressed concern regarding the participation of key wrestlers, including Semen Novikov, Kiril Milov, and Edmond Nazaryan, in upcoming international competitions. He noted that these athletes have faced registration issues due to disputes over centralized training regulations. He also criticized current management policies that prioritize Bulgarian-born athletes over naturalized competitors who have won medals for the country.
Former federation leaders Grisha Ganchev and Valentin Yordanov supported Angelov’s candidacy. Ganchev accused the current leadership of practicing “disgusting racism and discrimination,” specifically citing the treatment of athletes based on skin color and religion. Ganchev urged wrestling clubs to elect Angelov to prevent the sport from further decline, stating that the federation must move away from political infighting and discriminatory practices.
