Bulgaria's CEC sets schedule for 2026 presidential elections
The Central Election Commission (CEC) of Bulgaria has officially adopted the timeline for the presidential and vice-presidential elections, which are scheduled to take place on October 25, 2026. This election follows the early termination of Rumen Radev's mandate in January 2026.
Key deadlines include the announcement of voting locations abroad by September 4 and the registration of political parties and coalitions by September 9. Candidates for president and vice-president must be registered by September 22. The official election campaign is set to begin on September 25 and run until midnight on October 23, with October 24 designated as a day of reflection.
On election day, polling stations will open at 7:00 and close at 20:00, with a possible extension to 21:00 for voters still in line. If a second round is required, it will be held on November 1, 2026. The CEC is also initiating a public procurement process for an information campaign, including audiovisual materials and digital content to explain the voting process.
