Bulgaria's Central Election Commission debates quotas and voter fraud

The Bulgarian Central Election Commission (CEC) is addressing several issues ahead of the upcoming presidential elections. During a recent session, commission members debated the allocation of quotas for district election commissions. The dispute centered on the distribution of seats for 13-member and 17-member commissions, with political factions such as GERB-SDS, PP-DB, DPS, and Vazrazhdane contesting the mathematical methods used to determine representation.

Separately, the CEC has decided to refer 37 individuals to 15 regional prosecutor's offices. These individuals are suspected of voting more than once during the parliamentary elections held on April 19, 2026. The commission has identified the current and permanent addresses of those involved and will send formal letters to both the prosecutors and the citizens in question.

Additionally, the Minister of Innovation and Digital Transformation, Ivan Vasilev, is scheduled to meet with the CEC on August 27 to discuss preparations for the presidential elections set for October 25, 2026.
