Bulgaria prepares for presidential elections on October 25

Bulgaria is finalizing preparations for the presidential and vice-presidential elections scheduled for Sunday, October 25. The Central Election Commission (CEC) confirmed that 6,590,000 people are eligible to vote, including approximately 46,000 young citizens voting for the first time.

Technical preparations are largely complete, with 11,622 voting machines allocated for the election. The CEC has decided to reintroduce a requirement for a stamp on machine-printed receipts to ensure consistency with local elections and prevent procedural disputes. However, some members of the Public Council to the CEC have expressed concerns that stamping receipts could potentially compromise ballot secrecy.

Regional administrations are managing logistics, including the distribution of hundreds of thousands of paper ballots. In Plovdiv, authorities identified and set aside 200 damaged ballots for the 'Iztochen' district. In Pleven, officials have secured generators to prevent power interruptions and coordinated with police for security. BNT has announced extensive coverage of the election, utilizing over 40 reporting teams to provide live updates from across the country and abroad.
