Bulgaria's cities compete to host Eurovision 2027

Four Bulgarian cities – Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Burgas – are vying to host the Eurovision Song Contest in 2027. Sofia’s mayor, Vasil Terziev, highlighted the capital’s experience with large‑scale events, its 18,000‑seat hall, the country’s biggest airport and extensive hotel capacity, arguing the city is ready to welcome the contest immediately after a decision is made.

Bulgarian National Television director Milena Milotina told a press briefing that the candidates must confirm their interest and complete a detailed questionnaire covering technical, logistical and cultural requirements set by the European Broadcasting Union. The selection committee aims to shorten the usual August deadline to July, with a final decision expected by the end of the week. Officials from each city stressed the potential boost to Bulgaria’s international image, tourism and local economies, while also noting the administrative workload involved in meeting the contest’s standards.
